The Essence of Celebrating the Day of Valor

We Filipinos are always honored to celebrate the "Day ng Kagitingan" in commemorating the brave souls who fought and died during the Fall of Bataan on April 9, 1942. It is an act of bravery and patriotism that inspires Filipino and still remembers it today. This historic date marks the greatest of Filipino veterans and American allies who fought against the Japanese invasion in World War II. This serves as a constant symbol of the Filipinos' bravery and patriotism.

This year on April 9, we are here to celebrate its 80th anniversary even though we are still facing their global health crisis. Usually, when the event has started, there are small parades in different localities in the Philippines but the main highlight occurs when the country's president gives a speech at the Mt Samat shrine, in the Bataan province to honor veterans. Many streets are also closed and public transport routes may be redirected to give way for parades. And employers should also obey the holiday pay rules.

This special non-working holiday is a tribute to the Filipino and American war veterans who died or served the country. It also to remember those who sacrificed and fought for our country including our modern heroes called "Frontliners" who put the relentless effort in trying to stop the pandemic despite the many challenges and threats. So there is no reason for us not to celebrate it or not to continue it anymore.
