The Philippines is one of the world's most disaster-prone countries. Located along the boundary of major tectonic plates and at the center of a typhoon belt, its islands are regular impacted by floods, typhoons, landslides, earthquakes, volcanoes, and droughts. It also ranks among the top three countries in the world for population exposure and vulnerability hazards. Today, the country was extremely affected by the pandemic for more than a year now.
It's not a secret that Filipino people have always prided themselves on their resilience, withstanding these experiences of sufferings and traumas. They were able to bounce back immediately after a hardship, all the while offering help and warmth to other people is a feature one should always hope to have.
One of the Filipino culture that we can be proud of is the "Bayanihan" which means having communal unity and cooperation. This behavior most evident during difficult times, and the COVID-19 pandemic is no exception. Fundraisers and drives were organized in order to provide financial support to patients and families. Masks and face shields were distributed to those in need. Some also organized a community pantry where you can get free goods to eat.
The pandemic is still a long way to go before it will end; storms, earthquakes, floods, and landslide, will hit our country (but I'm hoping it will not), we Filipino will get up stronger than before. Giving
