Part and parcel of the Filipino culture are the festivals being celebrated in every town. One of the most popular ones is the Vigan Town Fiesta observed on January 25, in honor of St. Paul the Apostle.
The Vigan Town Fiesta is commemorated in the northernmost part of the Philippines in Ilocos Region. Before the pandemic, the festival gathers a lot of tourist performances who come to see the presentations they do for the show. It is composed of arts and crafts exhibits, carnivals, street dancing performances, and other vivacious performances that celebrate the spirit of Vigan's cityhood.
The whole celebration is made in honor of St. Paul the Apostle. The saint is considered the patron saint of the town.
The yearly celebration of the Vigan Town Fiesta is very different from those years gone by because of the global pandemic. But the city government of Vigan found ways to make the celebration possible even if it is in the new normal type of celebrating it. They planned to celebrate at least a low-key festival to ensure the safety of every Biguenios. Every people must take all the hygiene precautions, social distancing, and follow the protocols for coronavirus prevention.
Celebrating festivals amidst the COVID-19 is very challenging. But celebration, be it big or small, give us something to look forward to, left our spirits up, and helps us recognize the good things in life. We may not be able to celebrate the way are used to, but sharing the moments with other people even when we want cannot be together, can teach us to celebrate simple pleasure in life. In this time of crisis don't let sadness or anxiety invade you.
